‘Health Over Wealth’
In D.C., there’s a strong correlation between health and income. The least wealthy wards also have the highest obesity rates and fewest healthy food options. Citywide, 15 percent of all deaths are obesity-related, according to the District’s Overweight and Obesity Action Plan.
So D.C. artist Rosina “Teri” Memolo’s magnets, “Health Over Wealth,” hold special relevance for those of us in the District. She created the image using a stencil, writing on her Tumblr, “I struggle sometimes to communicate an obvious message… Stencils allow me to add text directly into my work and to convey a message.”
