It's not a bad thing -- it shows that restaurants that used to locate mainly in the suburbs are now comfortable with the city, and see rising incomes in the city to support it. IHOP has delicious buttermilk pancakes. I can eat stacks! And the prices are reasonable. It's a great addition. This is suburbia coming to DC! The people you saw working that day don't necessarily represent everyone that was hired. How do you know that they only hire black people? But my experience on the first day was really bad. The waiters provided the worst service I have ever seen. Our waiter never offered us refills, never asked how our meals were...etc. When I wanted to leave, I had to pull random waiters aside to request the bill since my waiter had gone AWOL. Our waiter finally brought the bill but didn't leave a pen for me to sign (I was paying with a credit card). When I asked her for a pen, she gave me an ugly face (instead of apologizing!!!). And what's with only hiring black people!!!! I know this is DC, but it's Columbia Heights, not Anacostia. You'd think they'd find a couple of Latinos, Asians, etc. The place doesn't feel like it's part of our neighborhood. A big business should do a better job making sure the staff is diverse and represents the community it serves. I'm not going back until I see changes. So disappointed. I’m generally an IHOP fan. Surely, just a stun gun wouldn't be objectionable? and do people really pine after Ellwood's? Here in our tattooed middle-market city it seems strange to read of a RIC fixture coveted in a bigger city. there are gun shows throughout the year in Richmond, largest ones held minutes from my house–barring that there are many gun stores in close proximity to the same.
